ON THE CIVIL SIDE

  • We hear Civil cases (up to $10,000 which is likely to increase in 2019)
  • We hear Debt Claim cases
  • We hear Eviction cases, (and if applicable, back rent up to $10,000
  • We hear cases on a Landlord’s Duty to Repair and Remedy
  • We hear cases on Writs of Restoration and Writs of Re-Entry
  • Truancy cases (Yes, they are now a civil matter)
  • Based on a 7-year average JP4 carries roughly 13% of the civil cases filed in Tarrant County

ON THE CRIMINAL SIDE

  • We hear only Class C Misdemeanor cases (not major offenses) and JP4 carries roughly 25% of all the criminal cases filed in Tarrant County JP Courts
  • We adjust Misdemeanor cases filed from all of the very different types of County and State law enforcement agencies; i.e. Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Parks and Wildlife, and the Tarrant Regional Water District
  • Based on a 7 year average, JP4 carries roughly 26% of the criminal cases filed in Tarrant County JP Courts

ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND MAGISTRATES SIDE

  • We issue Emergency Mental Health Warrants which are referred to us from MHMR.
  • We issue Probable Cause Arrest Warrants for local law enforcement agencies
  • We hear Driver's License Suspension cases and can issue Essential Needs Licenses (occupational driver's license) under many circumstances
  • As needed we conduct Magistrate's Warnings and Arraignments for ours and other court
  • Truancy cases (Yes, they are now a civil matter)
